Professional Development

I was very fortunate to attend the Teacher Computer Education Association (TCEA) Convention last February in Austin, Texas. There were a variety of sessions related to the use of new technologies in education. I concentrated my participation in those about virtual environments, like Second Life, the Web 2.0, podcasting, available software' and methodologies for the design of training materials.

During the week long of the convention I attended around eight seminars a day where instructional technologist managers shared their experiences and showed us their techniques in designing training materials and utilizing free available resources for learning. It was a very rich professional developmental event where I met top instructional technology's specialist from all over the state of Texas.

I participated frecuently in webminars about topics related to instructional technology, specially those focused in the use of Second Life or similar virtual environments for distant learning and e-mentoring. I am a Second Life builder and developed, and recently was part of the developing team of the College of Education and Human Development of the University of Texas at San Antonio for stablishing a virtual island (sim) in Second Life.
